Summer Wheat

Brooklyn, NY
Summer Wheat (M.F.A., painting, 2004) describes her artwork as “sensual, disturbing, ugly but beautiful.” She is an adventurer in the realm of contemporary painting, using tools from other walks of life to ice her canvases like cakes and weave strands of paint together like yarn. Her work is part of private and permanent collections worldwide, and has been included in museum exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Massachusetts, and the De Cordova Museum and Sculpture Park, Lincoln, Massachusetts, among others. Her solo exhibition, "Pry the Lid Off," was presented at the Oklahoma Contemporary in Oklahoma City in 2016. Wheat lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
