Shoccara S. Marcus
Shoccara Marcus (M.F.A., photography, 2015) describes herself as “Dancer first. Photographer second.” Her relationship with dance started at an early age, beginning with after-school programs in gymnasiums and local dance schools, to her acceptance into the dance program at the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet Program at Tri-Cities High School, East Point, Georgia. From pliés and tendus to snapshots and photo albums, her love for dance soon found her capturing its fluidity through a camera lens. Her work has been showcased at China Jinan International Photography Biennial; Exposition des étudiants in France; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Atlanta; Lucinda Bunnen Selects at Atlanta Photo Group; Gallery 72, Omaha, Nebraska; SCAD and, most recently, in “Inspired Georgia,” a book featuring some of the state’s best poets and photographers. Marcus’ fine art photography focuses on the investigation of lived experiences and her relation to the world around her.
