Rhett Scott (B.F.A., painting, 2013) is an Atlanta-based contemporary artist. His work strips down the human façade; like cultural X-rays, he exposes what lies beneath. Scott’s creative process marries pedestrian materials with high-brow concepts. His use of abstract gestures, touchy subject matter and raw techniques reveals the often irrational aspects of contemporary society. Scott is a storyteller. His muses are an amalgam of contrasts: his Southern upbringing in Central Texas, grunge and graffiti, African masks, exotic animals and sneaker and skater culture. By fusing these elements together, Scott has created a distinct vocabulary that defies convention. He is currently earning his M.F.A. in painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
