Julia Harmon (M.F.A., painting, 2014) is an artist and educator living in Charleston, South Carolina, whose work deals with notions of memory, nostalgia, and familial relationships. She borrows found imagery from both strangers’ and her family’s past to explore the power of candid photos in revealing intimate moments and mysterious narratives. Her work emphasizes the beauty of photographic distortion and compositional mistakes by the hand of an amateur. Upon graduating with her M.F.A, Harmon received an award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Painting. Her recent work has been exhibited in group and solo exhibits in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and France.
