John Paul Kesling
John Paul Kesling (M.F.A., painting, 2011) is a painter and mixed-media artist whose work is often dreamlike, intuitively composed and pieced together like broken memories. Feelings of fear, urgency and enthusiasm emanate from the landscapes and figures he creates. Working on multiple surfaces and layering his mediums, Kesling's collage-like paintings feel alive and visceral with emotion and intention. After finishing college, Kesling spent six years immersed in the New York City art scene while living in Brooklyn. In March of 2016, he attended a month-long residency at The Vermont Studio Center and realized how integral time, space and nature were to his studio practice. In July of that same year, he relocated to Nashville, where he maintains a prolific studio practice. Recent exhibition history includes solo shows at The Red Arrow Gallery and Galerie Tangerine, and group shows at Julia Martin Gallery, The Gallery at Fort Houston, all in Nashville, and Tim Faulkner Gallery in Louisville, Kentucky.
