Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Bethani Blake (B.F.A. painting) is interested in the culture of nostalgia, recontextualizing appropriated and personal images. She is fascinated by imagery from the ’90s and early 2000s and connects more deeply with the fads and icons of the Millennial Generation than with her own Generation Z. Blake’s subject matter is rooted in cultural movements specific to the turn of the 21st century. She bases her practice on seriality and accessible imagery, drawing the viewer in to inspire recollection.
